Updates on Yu Miao Reopening in September 2021

Dear Yu Miao Parents,

Hope you are enjoying the summer at this time. First of all I would like to thank you all for the patience and support while we await the reopening of Yu Miao. Because of the uncertainties brought on by the covid-19 pandemic and the many obstacles we have encountered in preparing a new campus for Yu Miao, the AHSC management has decided that our preschool program will not reopen in September as originally planned. We will arrange as soon as possible for refund of all payments made towards the new school year 2021-2022.

We apologized for the disappointment and any inconvenience caused. This has been a very difficult decision for all of us who have been passionately involved in the preschool program. Nevertheless we will continue our search for new school campus.

Meanwhile we will operate at the AHSC building ( 3rd Floor ) to provide in person afterschool program for kids ages 5 to 10. Your input and feedback are important to us so that we can start the program as soon as schools open in September.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.

About Yu Miao

Mandarin is quickly becoming a favorite for those wishing to learn a foreign language, and in some business arenas, knowing the language is a must. At AHSC's Yu Miao Chinese Immersion Preschool, children get a head start in the language while learning everything that they would at a typical preschool. Yu Miao also functions as a day care center, allowing families flexibility with drop-off and pickup.

Yu Miao means "carefully planting and nurturing young sprouts." Give them good nutrition, and they will grow into great plants. Children are like young sprouts, too. Nurturing them early will help them become great people.

History

AHSC started Yu Miao Chinese Immersion Preschool in 1999. It is for all who want to expose their children to the Mandarin language and Chinese culture. The preschool's objective is to help families and children stay in touch with Chinese tradition while thriving in American culture. Our goal is to provide quality education for children between ages 3 and 5.

Initially, Yu Miao functioned out of Chinese Presbyterian Church on Woodstock Boulevard. In 2003, the preschool moved to St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Powell Boulevard, renting space there. Classes were held in the morning from Tuesday through Thursday.

In 2007, after repeated requests from families, AHSC decided to expand Yu Miao from three days to five days a week. At the same time, the preschool became a full-day program. To accommodate families, Yu Miao also took on the role of being a day care center.

The preschool moved once again, this time to the former building of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Catholic School on Woodstock Boulevard. The environment is fitting for Yu Miao's purposes and provides an opportunity for growth.
