National Diabetes Prevention Program
(class in Cantonese language)

Asian Health & Service Center is providing a yearly course where a trained lifestyle coach works with a group of participants to help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by losing weight through healthy eating, being more physically active, and learning to identify and address barriers to healthy eating and physical activity.

Participant Eligibility

  • 18 years of age 
  • Blood test indicating have prediabetes, or screen positive on the CDC Prediabetes Screening Test.

Attend our information workshop or call us if you are eligible for the program.

The yearly course is divided into two parts; participants must attend both: 

  • 16 Core sessions (weekly): Core sessions are focused on the process of adopting lifestyle changes for healthy eating and physical activity. These sessions are designed to help participants develop lifelong skills for health living and reinforce step-by-step change. 
     
  • Up to 10 Post core sessions (monthly): Post core sessions are intended to provide addition support and learning opportunities to participants and help them transition to independently maintain their lifestyle changes.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers-6-Week Course
(class in Korean language)

This program serves family caregivers who are caring for someone over the age of 60 or an adult of any age caring for someone with chronic or serious illnesses or a grandparent/relative age 55 and older that is caring for a child under the age of 18. You’ll develop a wealth of self-care tools 

  • Reduce stress
  • Manage time, set goals & solve problems
  • Change negative self-talk
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Better communicate their feelings
  • Make tough decisions
  • Locate helpful resources

Free Medical & Dental Screening

Asian Health & Service Center is partnering with Kaiser Permanente and Medical Team International to provide the community with a Free Mobile Medical and Dental Clinic. The event will be on every 2nd Friday from January to December 2024. AHSC will host MTI’s mobile clinic at the SE Foster location to increase access to care for the Asian communities, specifically dental care and health screenings. Call for an appointment & more information.

Tobacco Prevention Program – Poster Contest

The Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program is one of the Public Health programs supported through the OHA Health Equity Grant. Our aim is to raise awareness and tackle public health issues linked to tobacco use. To achieve this, AHSC will implement culturally tailored engagement, outreach, and education programs. Our focus is to encourage participation in discussions about tobacco use and prevention among local Tri-County Asian communities.
