Community Engagement - Dance Club
AHSC offers a continuum of social and support services in a culturally sensitive setting by reaching out to Asian immigrants, reacquainting them with the arts and culture of their homeland, providing opportunities for socializing, and fostering a sense of community. Our culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate community outreach includes our popular Ethnic Outreach & Meal Service Program for seniors and our Information Assistance Program.
The Dance Club was started in 2002 with the objective of encouraging people to come together to enjoy social activities in our community and live a better quality of life. Since 2003, the dance club was led by our long term volunteer, Mr. Thong Luong. Mr. Luong is a dedicated volunteer instructor who emigrated from Vietnam. He insists on teaching the class with no service fee, but with all his heart. This is a two-hour long dance class that is comprised of line dancing and switches in the first hour, and the instructor shows different styles of ballroom dancing in the second hour. The club meets every Friday from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm at our Portland office. Currently we have approximately 38 members in this group. We welcome everyone to join us, no matter where you come from, which language you speak, and what background you have.
